Embedded systems play a crucial role in electronics industries today. The inherent value of embedded
systems lies in their pervasiveness and ubiquity. They are literally embedded in all electronic products,
from consumer electronics to office automation, automotive, medical devices and communications.
The strong technological developments in India and China are propelling Asia's embedded systems design
industry. According to BCC Research Group estimates, the Asia-Pacific region’s embedded design market will
reach almost $25 billion by 2009. India is on track to becoming one of the leading hubs in embedded design
and software development, as evidenced by the growing number of VLSI companies developing embedded
software, the influx of EMS companies, the increased outsourcing by OEMs and the growing semiconductor
consumption in the region. China, with the rapid pace of its electronics technology and manufacturing expansion,

According to Frost and Sullivan, chip design has increasingly moved to Southeast Asia, especially Singapore
and Malaysia, and the market is expected to follow the growth path of the semiconductor market.
There has been substantial progress in the complexity of Southeast Asian chip design projects in terms of line
width of process technology measured in nanometers, increasing complexity of analog and mixed-signal design as
compared to digital design, and the number of logic gates used in the design.
Largely driven by the demand from various end-user segments such as telecommunications, electronics,
and automotive for advanced technologies and the trend in outsourcing, the Southeast Asian market is expected to
experience growth in the future with an increasing number of participants and very strong competition in all its
segments.
